How to ping a server on the internet if I am sitting behind a proxy?

I am using proxy to connect to internet in my office, how can I ping a server, if I have the IP address of that, on the internet. Is there any special software need to ping/telnet to that server in my case.



Apart from that if I use DSL connection that what may be the process to ping the internet server???How to ping a server on the internet if I am sitting behind a proxy?

This depends on the type of proxy it is.



You need to either logon to the server which connects directly to the internet (Has the internet (IP) address) or use a computer which has full access to the internet via NAT or use an online site which allows remote pinging.



Or you can speak to the person who controls the proxy to see if they can allow you ICMP access through it.



The server in question may not be pingable from the internet. It may not even be the server that is directly connected to the internet. The physical and software setup of the servers and ISPs will determin if that server is pingable but the only way to try is to get the servers public IP address (IF it has one) and type :-

You can't ping through a proxy, you need to allow ICMP traffic through the firewall.

what you mean behind a proxy is behind a router. but it doesn't mean that you can't ping anyone, cuz if there was no ping response, there would be no communication between you and internet right now...when you are sitting behind a router then that means that no one can connect to you(because they would be connecting to a proxy server and not your computer), but you can connect to them..so don't listen to any bs answers..if you know persons ip then you can ping them simply by going to command promt(Start/Run cmd), and typing ping 'persons ip'(no quotes), if you want to telnet to them then you can go Start/Run telnet 'ip num' 'port number'(no quotes)..nothing complicated in it
