How do I access my FTP server while not at home?

I have a small home network. I have set up one of the computers on the network as an FTP server and I can access it from my other computers on the network by using the local ip address of the server. What I want to do is to access it from my computer at work as well. I know I have to use my internet ip address as well as the server's local ip address but I am not sure in what way. Please help. How do I access my FTP server while not at home?
Go into your router's configuration and set up port forwarding for ports 20 and 21 to the private IP address of the server.

Before you do this, be SURE that you lock down your FTP server! If you don't, it will be hijacked for spreading porn and pirated audio and video files in a day or so.How do I access my FTP server while not at home?
