What is the best way to store a lot of data such as a server?

I have a small home server. I have a lot of home videos and pictures etc that take up quite a bit of space. I currently have a computer with two external hard drives (USB) running as a server, but these are getting full. I don't just want to buy more usb drives. Whats the best way off adding say 500Gb-1Tb of storage without buying a server from dell for like 拢2000

When buying a drive, you need to look at more than just how much it can hold, but RPM, Cache Size, Read/Write times, etc.

What you can do is buy a 2tb internal hard drive for the server and copy the old hard drive to the new one using software like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image. This way you can get rid of the externals and just use a big internal if possible buy 2 and then you wouldn't have to upgrade for quite some time. Buy one off ebay just search 1tb internal hard drive 2.5 for a laptop ot 3.5 for a desktop. they are only about 50uk pounds
