How much is a typical restaurant server make in a month/year?

I know its $2-3 per hour plus tips..... I see that answer for previous questions from others. But, no one really answers that "plus tips" part. I am looking to find out what a typical server salary is for an average restaurant like Applebee's, O'Charley's, Red Lobster or similar. Can anyone give an honest answer for this? Thanks. How much is a typical restaurant server make in a month/year?
The answer also depends on the number of hours you work, but ...

All restaurants advise their servers to report ALL of their tips; however, it is common practice to report only 10% of your total food and beverage sales at the end of the night. Any tips included on a credit card are already reported for you. So let's say as you clock out, you discover that your F%26amp;B was $500 for the night. You need to report $50. If you have $25 on register tips, then you need to report only $25 in cash tips.

Ok, most of the time, you are reporting less tips than what you have in your pocket. So it's as if you made a little extra that nobody knows about. On MY paycheck, there's a section that averages together my reported tips plus my hourly wage and says that my hourly wage was something more like $8/hour as opposed to $2/hour. But since I'm not reporting some of my tips, that is probably more like $10 or $12/hour. Now you have to multiply by hours/week and by 52 weeks in a year. Since it's not a full-time job, time taken of for vacation means money not earned that week.

The last variable in the equation is whether a server is serving at Applebee's or Waffle House or Lutece. At Applebee's, the idea is to jack up the food and beverage with drinks, at Waffle House, the idea is to turn the tables as quickly as possible, at Lutece your entree is going to be $30;; by the time you finish, your ticket may be in the hundreds of $$s, but you may only turn two or three tables once or twice a night. I can turn 4 tables 25 times in 8 hours at Cracker Barrel, but entrees are $7.99, so you're looking at $5 tips as good, but averaging $2, $3, and $4 tips -- and sometimes that is 20% of their total ticket, so they're actually being generous! At Waffle House, someone may come in, get a cup of coffee for a dollar, sit at the counter, get a refill, leave, and leave $2 -- it's not much, but it's a 100% tip. And you'll get 50 more just like him in a shift.

Do you see why an honest answer sounds evasive now? It's difficult to say "$20,000." Heck, some folks in casinos get tipped out with chips and if the person has been winning, they can tip with a $1000 chip (Watch Casino Royale -- the dealer at the final game is tipped with a half million dollar chip!)

Bottom line: it's very hard work, for people who are often stingy and unappreciative or in a hurry, and for every $5 tip there's a couple of $1 tips. EVERYONE in the world should be forced to work as a waiter ONCE just so they know what it's like. Then maybe you'll tell me everything you need all at once instead of making me make 6 different trips for 6 different things.

TIP originally stood for "To Insure Promptness" and delays in YOUR food while the kitchen bangs out a party of 14, isn't all my fault; you had the misfortune of arriving after the party was seated and the kitchen is doing the best that they can! Sorry, I got off on a little bit of a rant there.

ps -- there was an article in the newspapers recently that said the new "standard" tip is 20% not 10 or 15. It's easier to figure and 15% has been the average for awhile now. Everyone else has gotten a "cost of living" increase from time to time -- now it's time to give your server one.
This is how you figure it out. Take your gross sales and multiply it by 20 percent. If it's a busy night and your sales are a thousand dollars, then you should make close to $200.00 This of course is only if you don't suck as a server...(This formula will work for any restaurant! How much is a typical restaurant server make in a month/year?
Depends on how many nights you work and which night. There is NEVER a set amount in the serving industry, you have to understand that.

That being said I worked at Applebees and I worked 4 nights a week, Tuesday, Fri, Sat and Sunday. I made on average about 350 a week. So about 1400 a month. But it really depends on the place and the nights that you work. Obviously Friday and Saturday will be your money makers. Hope this helps
I think that "tip" part depends on your personality and skills.

If you are very personable and make small talk, but not too much, and work quickly and efficiently you may make pretty decent tips.

But don't get discouraged, some people do not believe in tipping because they think you already make enough money or they think someone else will bring up their slack .How much is a typical restaurant server make in a month/year?
i have worked several jobs as a server and it will depend on your attitude and your loyalty to the customers.. a great server in any of the resturants that you have named will bring home anywhere from fifty to two fifty anite.. they would only claim

1\3 of this to the company so that the taxes will not kill what little paychecks they do have.. at the end of the year they will need to claim it all..but there is good money in being a server you just have to be nice, and remember to always check with your customers every five to ten minutes refresh their drinks, take away old food and smile and laugh. never be rude or ignore a customer.. I have been tip by customers leaving the store because i was nice enough tohelp them when they werenot my customers.. lol
